I think It would have been good if there was a failure string to follow so it made sense story wise. Sigma Shipyards is always the first 'big' side mission I go for so I can hypergate travel. I disagree it's not dumb at all, Its great that your fiddling around with the game. Here’s a good primer about Nova’s control bits if you’re curious and want to learn more.

It was still quite simple, even if it required a bit of trial and error! To do that, I removed the requirements for the first mission so I could start it over from the beginning and made it so that accepting that mission removed said bit/flag. * EDIT: Some additional clarification: I also had to remove a mission “control bit” that flagged me as having failed the string, locking me out of the Sigma perks I’d already earned. Just wanted to share, hopefully others will look into taking up plug-in editing after seeing this! I know this is probably like child's play for a lot of y'all, but it felt pretty good to figure this out after having made a mistake that would otherwise make me restart my playthrough. Booted up the game and - HOORAY - I was offered the mission again!* I downloaded EVNEW, deleted a couple characters that designated I was locked out from a mission string, and saved it as a plugin. NOPE, turns out I failed when I was scanned, didn't realize it, and saved my game, forever locked out from the Sigma perks. One of the most important ones is obviously the Sigma Shipyards sidestring - that's a mouthful - which I thought I just completed. I haven't really done any main missions yet, but have instead been putzing around the galaxy building a fortune trading (35M credits), exploring, and doing side missions. Okay, this is kinda dumb, but I recently started replaying EV Nova for the first time in like fifteen years, just on PC rather than Mac this time.
